Intensive English Program

ELS Language Centers, an internationally-known language school, is America's leading provider of English language instruction. One of the centers is located in Grand Valley's Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences on the Robert C. Pew Grand Rapids campus. ELS offers 4-week long English instruction at twelve different levels. Students may fulfill the university's English requirement by completing level 112 at ELS. Students who are in levels 110, 111, or 112 may enroll concurrently at Grand Valley, and three English general credits are available for ELS students after matriculating to GVSU.

We offer intensive classes in grammar, conversation, reading, writing and listening skills that will prepare you for success in your further studies at Grand Valley. ELS Language Centers also provide TOEFL preparation, lessons in American culture, test-taking skills, computer skills, pronunciation and advanced conversation. In addition, research and note-taking skills are stressed as they are needed for success at Grand Valley State University. Field trips and activities are also arranged for students. Students may live in University housing or may apply to experience a home-stay with an American family.

ELS is also a great way to practice English with many other students from around the world! This experience will help you develop a sense of independence and self-confidence, and you will broaden and strengthen your English communication skills. It will also help you adjust to life in the U.S. by first studying at ELS Language Centers.
