International applicants applying for a graduate degree program of study must submit the following documents to the Grand Valley State University Admissions Office by October 15 for the Winter (January) Semester or by May 1 for the Fall (August) Semester in order to be considered for admission:

  • International Application for Admission - available online or in print form
  • Application fee - US $30 - payable by bank draft written on a U.S. bank, valid credit card, or international postal money order
  • Official academic transcript from all post-secondary colleges or universities that you have attended. We also require a copy of your degree certificate, or verification of your impending graduation
  • Official TOEFL or IELTS score report, or completion of ELS Language Centers Level 112 – the minimum TOEFL score is 550 written, 80 Internet-based or 213 computer-based, or the minimum acceptable IELTS score is 6.5 for graduate study. Submission of an official TOEFL or IELTS score report or successful completion of ELS level 112 is required of applicants whose native language is not English. 
  • One page, typed and signed, personal statement indicating your academic goals and the ways in which this graduate program can help you attain your professional goals
  • Verification of Financial Support - U.S. Immigration law requires that all international students verify that they have support for at least one year's costs and that there is reasonable assurance that the financial support will continue for the remaining years needed to complete the degree. The estimated educational and living expenses for 2007-2008 is $24,000 per year for Master's-level study. Your sponsor must complete and sign the Financial Support Form that is included with our application and it must be submitted with an original bank statement verifying that the necessary amount of support is available
  • GMAT Score Report – required for MBA, Accounting, and Taxation.
  • GRE Score report – required for Nursing, Education, Physical Therapy, English, Biology and Engineering. 
  • Three letters of recommendation from professors or employers – required for Communications, Computer Information Systems, Health Sciences, Nursing, Public Administration, Social Work, Engineering, Criminal Justice, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physicians Assistant Studies.
  • Some Graduate programs have additional requirements that are specific to that program.
