Housing

Where will I live if I come to Grand Valley State University?

We guarantee that international students receive housing on-campus based on our receiving the request for housing by the required deadline, as listed in the following paragraph. It is very important that we know as soon as possible after your admission as to whether you will be coming to Grand Valley and also whether you will need housing.

Once you are admitted, you will receive housing information from the director of international student services. If you will need on-campus housing, you will need to inform us no later than June 1 for Fall entry and by November 15 for Winter entry. It is highly recommended that international students live on-campus for at least the first year, to better acclimate themselves to Grand Valley and its services, and also to familiarize themselves with the U.S. system of education. First-year undergraduate international students are generally placed in apartment-style living centers, which are buildings with rooms for two people and contain a small kitchenette and a bathroom. University transfer students, as well as our graduate students, are generally placed in one of our on-campus apartment buildings, which typically have two bedrooms for four people living in each apartment. Although you are not required to live on-campus, we currently do not provide assistance with finding off-campus placements.

Housing for International Students

Once you have applied and been admitted to Grand Valley, you will be sent a “Confirmation Form”.  It is important that you return this form promptly, as it informs us as to whether you are accepting our offer of admission and of your need for on-campus housing. We recommend that all new international students live on campus for at least the first year, to become better acclimated to the Grand Valley campus and community.

As a new international student you will be placed in either an apartment-style living center, which consists of two-person rooms that have a kitchenette and bathroom, or you might be placed in a two bedroom - four person apartment. Your placement will depend on your age, as well as the date that we receive your confirmation form. There are multiple locations to eat on campus. Students are welcome to purchase meal plans that will provide them with meals in the buffet-style cafeteria, food court, or any of the other cafes. You can learn more about the food service here at Grand Valley by clicking here.
