Why do I need to show that I have financial support?

The United States Department of Homeland Security regulations require that all international students must demonstrate to the university, by way of an official bank statement from their sponsor(s), the availability of financial support for at least the first year. It is assumed by Grand Valley AND by the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate officers that this support is legitimate and continuing support that will be available throughout your ENTIRE degree.

This "verification" must be submitted as part of the application process. An admission letter and immigration form I-20 (used in applying for a student visa) will not be issued until this document is received. Should an applicant need a "conditional" letter of admission in order to acquire the appropriate funding, they should submit all other documentation as well as a note of explanation regarding the need for an offer of admission in order to acquire funding.
